Services offered
At Slade Counseling & Consulting, services are designed to meet people where they are whether that means providing counseling to an individual or family, helping parents navigate challenging situations, or supporting organizations that serve children and adolescents. My approach is practical, trauma-informed, relationship-focused, and centered on creating meaningful change that carries into everyday life.
Adolescence can be complicated. Teens may be navigating anxiety, difficult emotions, trauma, family conflict, relationships, identity, impulsive behaviors, boundaries, or simply trying to figure out where they fit. Counseling provides a safe place to talk honestly, understand what is happening beneath the surface, build healthier coping skills, and develop the confidence and tools needed to move forward.
Sometimes you know something needs to change but aren't quite sure where to begin. Individual counseling can help you work through stress, relationships, boundaries, past experiences, parenting challenges, life transitions, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Sessions are collaborative, straightforward, and focused on helping you better understand yourself while making changes that actually work in your life.
Families can get stuck in patterns of conflict, miscommunication, hurt, and frustration that are difficult to change on their own. Family counseling focuses on improving communication, rebuilding trust, strengthening relationships, establishing healthier boundaries, and helping family members understand one another differently.
Parent & Family Support
Parenting a child or teenager with significant emotional or behavioral needs can leave you questioning every decision you make. Parent consultation provides a place to step outside of the immediate crisis and figure out what is actually happening.
Together, we can work on communication, boundaries, expectations, consequences, emotional regulation, difficult behaviors, family dynamics, and creating greater consistency at home. Parent consultation can also help families understand treatment recommendations and navigate behavioral-health, school, residential, and community-based services.
Parenting a young person who has experienced trauma, disrupted relationships, placement changes, or instability often requires a different approach. Consultation provides foster parents, kinship caregivers, and other caregivers with practical strategies for understanding behavior, responding in trauma-informed ways, strengthening connection, maintaining healthy boundaries, and creating stability within the home.
Coming home after residential treatment is a major transition for the young person and the family.
Transition support helps families prepare for reunification rather than waiting until problems arise. We can work together to develop realistic expectations, household structure, boundaries, communication plans, safety strategies, continued supports, and a plan for handling setbacks.
The goal isn't to create a perfect transition. It's to help everyone enter the next chapter with a clearer plan and better tools.
Organizations serving children and adolescents carry an enormous responsibility. Strong programs require more than good intentions—they need clear systems, trained staff, consistent expectations, quality documentation, effective leadership, and a culture that understands trauma.
Slade Counseling & Consulting provides consultation to residential programs, foster-care organizations, nonprofits, behavioral-health programs, and other youth-serving organizations seeking to strengthen their services.
Consultation may include program development, trauma-informed care implementation, staff supervision systems, documentation practices, treatment-planning workflows, family engagement, professional boundaries, youth programming, policies and procedures, quality improvement, staff communication, and organizational systems.
Consultation is tailored to the needs of each organization rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
The people working directly with youth need more than policies they need to understand why behaviors happen and what to do in the moment.
Customized training and professional development can be provided for residential programs, behavioral-health organizations, foster-care providers, schools, and other youth-serving teams.
Training topics may include trauma-informed care, professional boundaries, therapeutic communication, adolescent development, de-escalation, emotional regulation, working with challenging behaviors, family engagement, documentation, reflective supervision, and creating emotionally and physically safe environments.
Training can be developed for individual organizations and offered virtually or in person.
Sometimes an organization doesn't need another training it needs its systems to actually work together.
Program-development consultation focuses on identifying gaps, simplifying processes, strengthening communication, developing practical workflows, improving documentation, and creating systems staff can realistically follow.
The goal is to help organizations move from "this is how we're supposed to do it" to "this is how we actually do it every day."
